It's such a pleasure to meet you

We’re Tico & Red

We’ll also answer to “Johnny and Nicki” or “that (your choice of adjective here) couple that takes amazing photos and designs kick-ass stationery.”

At Tico & Red, our goal is to create work that is exciting, beautiful, and honest. Whether it’s capturing the heartfelt moments of your wedding day or designing invitations that make your guests “ooh” and “ahh,” we’re here for you. And we love what we do! We’re passionate about our craft and have been perfecting our skills in photography and design for over 10 years.

When we’re not taking photos or coming up with new designs, you might find us hunting for deals at antique markets, planning our next trip, watching movies, eating Indian food, or playing with our slightly neurotic but lovable dog, Madison.

Having recently gotten married, we understand the many choices ahead of you. We’re here to make the process easier. We offer both photography and letterpress stationery — two services in one! We’ll work with you to ensure that your wedding stationery not only sets the tone for your big day, but also reflects your unique personalities. And on the day of your wedding we’ll take a mix of documentary images and natural portraiture so that the people, emotions, and events of the day will be remembered always. While we primarily work in Cincinnati and Boston, we love to travel and are available for weddings worldwide.

Feel free to make yourselves at home. Be sure to check out our portfolio, poke around the Q&A, and learn how your love story can help girls in need. We can’t wait to work with you!

Nicki and Johnny's work is exceptional on every level – from their extraordinary talent, professionalism, and unique storytelling ability, to their commitment to off-the-charts excellence. They captured our day in wonderful and unexpected ways... and they're fun as hell!

A’s for
your Q’s

How long have you been in business?

Although we joined forces in early 2014 (in business and in marriage!), we each have more than a decade of experience in our areas of expertise.

We have our photographer / invitations. Can we still work with you?

Of course! We are happy to work with you even if you only need one of our services.

Do you offer any discounts?

Yes! You’ll receive 25 free invitations when you book both our photography and letterpress services. A minimum order of 50 invitation suites is required.

What are your rates?

Weddings, just like couples, are unique! Please contact us so that we can chat about your wedding and learn more about your needs. Our pricing begins at $2900, and all of our collections include at least six hours of coverage, two photographers, an online gallery and slideshow, and high resolution digital files. Hourly coverage is available for elopements or very small weddings.

When will we receive our wedding photos?

Our average turnaround time is 4 weeks. However, we’ll post a “teaser” image on Facebook within a week of your wedding, so make sure to like our page!

What if we want to add an album?

Digital files are awesome, but electronic media can be lost or accidentally deleted. A wedding album is the perfect way to display and preserve your memories over time. We offer beautiful wedding albums that feature leather, silk, or linen covers and high-quality archival photo paper. Our albums are delivered in handcrafted walnut boxes to keep them safe for years to come.

Will you travel? How far?

We love to travel and our passports are on standby. Whether by plane, train, or flying pig, we will happily travel to wherever you choose to say, “I do.” Bonus: as a Costa Rican, or “Tico,” Johnny speaks fluent Spanish!

What kind of equipment do you use?

We shoot with professional-grade Nikon DSLR cameras and an old school Pentax film camera.

How can we book you?

Once we receive a 33% retainer and a signed contract, we’re all yours!

How much do letterpress invitation suites cost?

Custom wedding stationery begins at $1500. Each project is unique and costs will vary. A simple suite includes an invitation, a response card, and two plain envelopes.

How long does the process take?

We need about 8 to 12 weeks to complete your order depending on the complexity of the design.

When should we mail our save the dates and/or invitations?

Typically, save the dates can be sent to your guests 4 to 6 months in advance. However, if you’re having a destination wedding, we recommend sending them out a year before the wedding. Invitations are usually mailed 6 to 8 weeks before the wedding.

What kind of press do you use?

We have a Cooks “Victor” platen press that dates back to the 1870s. He’s ah-mazing. And heavy. For jobs that require a larger press or special equipment, we have highly skilled and trusted printers on hand.

How does the ordering process work?

To begin, simply send us an email. We’ll set up a phone or Skype consultation to learn more about your needs. Once we have all the details, we’ll provide you with an estimate. Upon receiving a signed contract, 50% deposit, and content for the invites, we’ll get to work! The initial design process takes about two weeks. You’ll receive a PDF proof via email. Two rounds of revisions are included. Once we have final approval and payment for the balance, your invitation suites are printed and mailed to you.

Johnny has an amazing talent for capturing all events, big and small, that are part of a full day celebration. Having amazing photos and a great photographer were one of our top wedding priorities, and with Johnny, we got just that.

We Can

Help End Child Marriage

Let’s Invest
In Girls

There is nothing more beautiful than watching two people in love commit their lives to one another. But many girls in the developing world don’t have a say in when or whom they marry. If current trends hold, more than 142 million girls will be married before their 18th birthday over the next 10 years. Most of these girls live in poverty, often in rural areas.

But there is good news! Investing in the health and education of girls can save lives and help end the cycle of poverty. When girls have educational opportunities they marry later, have fewer children, and boost their earning potential by up to 20 percent. And when women earn income, they reinvest 90 percent of it into their families, leading to healthier children, stronger communities, and more vibrant economies. Amazing, right!?

Together, we can help end child marriage and empower girls around the world. Tico & Red is committed to donating a portion of your total order to non-profit organizations working to end child marriage through education and local community engagement.

Johnny doesn't just take photographs; he tells a story, and he somehow manages to pinpoint and capture the most important essence of your relationship and your day.

A Few

Wedding Info

This form will help us to get a great outline of your day. After it's filled out we will be in touch to go over your details and be sure everyone is on the same page. If you don't know some of the details, or have questions about how the timeline should go, we're happy to help out!

The Couple

Getting Ready

To make sense of the timing for getting ready, start with your ceremony time and work backwards, include ample travel time between locations. We prefer to photograph the couple getting ready for at least one or 1.5 hours. That will be a decent amount of time to get important details along with the couple and attendants getting ready. When we arrive we will photograph the details first, such as the wedding dress, special cufflinks, the invitation suite, etc. Rings can be photographed at this point, or during the reception. Ladies should be finishing up makeup and hair, and any bridesmaids should be dressed ahead of the bride. Groomsmen should be showered and ready to have us photograph them shaving and getting dressed. Please have the room cleaned up as best you can!

First Look

If we're photographing a first look we usually take the couple to a secluded location by themselves to have a quiet moment before the ceremony. We will then do some formals of the couple, and can follow that with wedding party formals if wanted. We're happy to do family formals as well, or can do them after the ceremony.

*Please note that having a receiving line can take up a half an hour or more, so be sure to account for that time in your schedule.

In this section please give us the estimated times of the events taking place at the reception, such as the cocktail hour, introductions, 1st dance, speeches, parent dances, etc. (if known). If we are photographing your wedding for longer than 4 hours, please note that we will require a hot meal as per our contract. We gotta keep our energy up! We suggest mentioning to your caterer that we should be fed at the same time as you. This will be the only downtime during the wedding, as it's rarely flattering to get pictures of guests eating. Many caterers feed the vendors last, but that can be problematic since events usually start up again at that time and we won't get a chance to finish the meal.

Formals are an important part of the day, and we want to be sure we photograph everyone that is important to you! We usually do the bulk of formals after the ceremony, and schedule about 2-3 minutes per formal grouping. Please note if you'd like to do some quick wedding party formals during getting ready or after the first look, and who those groups will be. Also, be sure to have someone on hand that knows everyone in the groups and can gather them at the appointed time. If we do not receive the list of formal grouping at least one week prior to the wedding we cannot guarantee that all groups will be covered at the wedding.

Other vendors

This section is the list of all your other vendors for the day. We love to know the team we will be working with, and make sure they come away with wonderful images for their own portfolio. Please note that we will be the ones to deliver our images to the other vendors, to ensure that everyone is properly credited. This will also make it easy to have all the information necessary to try to get your wedding published!
